Fortunately this is a minor instance and didn’t result in any aircraft damage, but it is a humbling reminder to always check every step of the list, because no matter how behind you are, skipping a step can make it even worse. While easily remedied by installing the stand and adjusting some cargo, the task took additional time and made them the story of the week in the pilot lounge. Turns out a missing tailstand combined with a growing aft CG results in the nose wheel coming off the ground and the tailstand bracket trying to contact the pavement. Read Moran’s full story now.Ģ) One of our own recalls an instance of those weight and balance problems coming to life while loading a Caravan. The story is an example of why self-discipline and repetition are essential to being a safe and prepared airman. He would’ve just been “a statistic in the NTSB files” to steal Moran’s own words. Now, we can talk all day about how important it is to ensuring the safety of the crew, passengers, and aircraft, but let’s hear from some real life examples of what could’ve or did go wrong when checklists become optional:ġ) Wally Moran, a retired airline captain, explains a day that he almost forgot to review his checklist and how/why the situation could have ended extremely poorly. Keep reading to learn more about making the checklist less mundane and why it’s important to follow the procedure every flight. Skipping the checklist means you can accidentally miss a major step, turning carelessness into a full-blow in-flight emergency. Well, there is a good reason behind this checklist, despite the repetition: it works. If you tilt the rocket over into horizontal flight, beware of running out of fuel! The rocket needs to keep some upwards motion to reach orbit. It happens to everyone, but here’s why you shouldn’t skip your preflight checklist:Īll pilots understand they are supposed to review and perform the preflight checklist before every flight, but eventually it just becomes repetitive to the point that it means slipping or forgetting to perform every action. While the rocket is in flight, you can use the WASD controls to tilt it (you can also hit F5 to change the view if you like). The rocket launch countdown lasts 20 seconds, and then you have lift-off. If you are not wearing a parachute, you will see a warning message - ignore it at your peril! When you are ready, press SPACE to start the rocket launch countdown sequence. You should also see a chat message telling you some of the rocket controls, and that it's SPACE to launch. The game will automatically zoom out into 3rd person view mode. Right click on the rocket to have your player step into it. If you are using the Extra Planets addon, you need a Space suit.building materials for your Moon base if you plan on making one, or how about a Flag?.armor and a suitable weapon might be a good idea!.Oxygen Mask, Oxygen Gear, and at least one filled Oxygen Tank.a spare filled Fuel Canister as a backup in case anything goes wrong.an Empty Canister - this is to take the remaining fuel out of the lander.(There's no way to make fuel on the Moon.) You will also need a Fuel Loader: see checklist. maybe an Empty Canister to bring home any fuel remaining in your rocket after you get up there.įirst up, make sure you load your rocket with plenty of fuel so that you will have enough for the return journey.building materials for your space station base.the required materials to create a Space Station if you didn't make one already. Also, you need to think about how you will get back from there! Those are fairly harsh and demanding environments and you're going to need a few things first. Once you launch that rocket, it will take you up into Space - at the Tier 1 stage, you can go either to a Space Station or to the Moon. * In Galacticraft 2, the rocket has to be placed on the central part of the launch pad. You can check if the rocket is filling by entering the rocket and pressing the F key. It should load fuel from its internal tank, into the rocket. Once the rocket is placed correctly on the launch pad, go to the Fuel Loader, open its GUI, and press the Load Fuel button. Now place your Tier 1 Rocket on the launch pad - just right click anywhere * on the pad to place it. Drop a filled Fuel Canister into the item slot and the Fuel Loader's internal tank should fill with some Fuel (yellow color). Power the Fuel Loader using Aluminum Wire or place a charged Battery inside it. Place the Fuel Loader next to the Rocket Launch Pad - touching it - and it should automatically connect.
